RECENT DATASET CHANGES

PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTINUING TO MyCIRI (2008-12-07)

Dear CIRI User,

Data for 2007 have been added to the dataset. As part of this update, we also have made some significant variable changes of which you should be aware. These changes will be reflected in all new datasets that you create:

1. Independence of the Judiciary (INJUD) has been added.
2. Foreign Movement (FORMOV) has been added.
3. Domestic Movement (DOMMOV) has been added.
4. The old Freedom of Movement (MOVE) variable has been retired and renamed as "OLD_MOVE."
5. New Freedom of Religion (NEW_RELFRE) has been added.
6. The old Freedom of Religion (RELFRE) variable has been retired and renamed as "OLD_RELFRE."
7. A new Empowerment Rights Index (NEW_EMPINX) has been constructed from Freedom of Assembly and Association, Foreign Movement, Domestic Movement, Freedom of Speech, Electoral Self-Determination, Freedom of Religion, and Worker's Rights.
8. The old Empowerment Rights Index has been retired and renamed as "OLD_EMPINX."
